Pinpointing the Past
This project, managed by Athlone Education Centre and funded by The Heritage Council involved 3 primary schools in Ballinasloe, Co. Galway.

The pupils identified, described and recorded the GPS location of lesser know historical buildings and places of interest in the Ballinasle area and then made that information available to the public via this dedicated website.
For the project the children used an eTrex GPS navigator manufactured by the Garmin company.
The information is presented in three main categories
- Sites which include sites of battles, memorial parks and ring forts
- Buildings which include churches, houses and castles
- Structures which include bridges, gateways and walkways
